My Story
Hi! I’m Dylan. I’m a Data Analyst from Vancouver, Canada. I’ve been working as a Data Analyst for the last 7 years and I have a bachelor’s degree in Economics. I started Vancouver Data Careers when I realized how big the gap was between those working in the field and those trying to break in.
I’ve found that most of the services/advice out there aren’t specific to data folks. The feedback and tips that a data professional needs are quite different from other roles as we’re very specialized, with a wide range of responsibilities.
I’ve hired roles from Co-op students up to the Manager level, being the hiring manager for a number of those. I’ve put together the entire interview process from scratch and built the interview guides used to hire people at Unbounce, a tech company here in Vancouver.
I’ve spoken at SFU, Northeastern University’s Vancouver campus, Douglas College, and SuperDataScience’s Online conference. I’ve also been doing 1:1 coaching and specialized services since 2022 and I started this website at the beginning of 2023 to continue that work.
I love data and helping people get into a job makes me feel very fulfilled. That’s a big reason why I do this. If you have any questions, my contact info is below. Feel free to use it!
On a personal note, I love sour beers. My favourite brewery is Île Sauvage Brewing in Victoria, Canada. This photo is of me there!
Why get help?
I learned most of the things I know the hard way, through making many, many mistakes. This is a silly way to go about things and, given the chance, I would go back and ask for help. Even 30 minutes of advice can save lots of time and frustration.
Time is money when you’re job searching. If you’re making an introductory wage of $40,000 a year, that’s over $600 a week after taxes in your pocket. Saving weeks can help put thousands of dollars in your pocket, let alone having the expertise to get you a higher salary than you may get without proper guidance.
